Biography
Patrick Telan brings more than 33 years of civil litigation and trial experience to his mediation practice, having represented both plaintiffs and defendants in complex litigation throughout the southeastern United States. Since graduating from law school in 1992, Patrick has litigated cases in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels, developing experience in medical malpractice, environmental and toxic tort litigation, personal injury, product liability, civil rights, aviation, and construction litigation.
Patrick began his legal career as a civil defense attorney, representing defendants in a broad range of litigation matters, including healthcare providers in complex medical malpractice cases. He subsequently expanded his practice to include the representation of plaintiffs in significant personal injury, medical malpractice, and environmental litigation. His experience on both sides of the courtroom provides him with a distinctive understanding of the competing interests, litigation strategies, and challenges facing plaintiffs, defendants, insurers, and their counsel.
Throughout his career, Patrick has litigated against some of the nation's largest law firms and handled cases involving complex medical and scientific evidence, challenging questions of liability and causation, and substantial damages. He has lectured locally and nationally on medical malpractice litigation and deposition preparation techniques and has mentored numerous young attorneys throughout his career. He has earned an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest level of peer recognition for professional excellence and ethical standards.
Having spent more than three decades representing clients in high-stakes litigation, Patrick understands that litigation involves far more than legal arguments and financial considerations. He recognizes the significant emotional, personal, and economic burdens that prolonged litigation places on individuals, businesses, and their families.
As a mediator, Patrick draws upon his extensive courtroom experience and his understanding of both plaintiff and defense perspectives to help parties realistically evaluate their positions, assess litigation risks, and identify opportunities for meaningful resolution. His mediation philosophy emphasizes thorough preparation, impartiality, candid communication, and active engagement with the parties and their counsel.
